The Opportunity:

Facilities and Business operations is seeking to hire an Electrician I. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, functional, clean, and efficient living and learning environment for our community. This position provides crucial support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of our campus. Some responsibilities include troubleshooting electrical issues, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, and responding to service requests from customers and staff. The electrician will ensure all work adheres to national and state electrical codes while taking on on-call responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct planned maintenance to proactively identify and prevent failures. Perform PM repairs (PMR) and corrective repairs to restore functionality.

  • Install, maintain, and alter wiring, power appliances, light machinery, electrical circuits, motors, generators, and other electrical components. Locate and rectify power failures and electrical malfunctions. Maintain and repair fire alarm systems as needed.

  • Assist with work performed by central shops, contractors, and other departments. Participate in Facilities Improvement and Capital Improvement projects.

  • Complete work orders promptly, recording labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes.

  • Report conditions needing further attention and update work order statuses.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved electrician apprenticeship program; or a high school diploma and 2+ years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational or technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to . 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in maintaining and repairing electrical systems within a commercial or institutional setting.

  • Experience with university or large facility maintenance operations is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in preventative maintenance and repair tasks, with the ability to interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with attention to detail, and understanding of low and medium voltage systems, transformers, controls, and some fire alarm systems.

  • Working knowledge of trade classifications, tools, materials, and tasks specific to maintenance and repairs.

  • Effective communication skills in conversational English for interaction with customers and team members.

  • Experience with Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) or similar platforms for work order management.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with national and state electrical codes and regulations.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.

Health Assessment Required:  

The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

This position is eligible for 10% Shift Differential Pay of the pay range minimum. 

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
