Mental Health Assistant- Full Time - Days - Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center, NJ

Performs basic, routine duties related directly and indirectly to clinical care of pediatric patients.


Principal Accountabilities:

Assist clinicians with care coordination tasks such as calling, emailing and/or faxing information to parents/guardian, primary schools/college, pediatrician or other providers, with a signed consent from guardian/patient. 

Discusses patient’s treatment plan, symptoms, and other pertinent information with patient’s care team including outside providers, with a signed consent from patients. 

Assists clinicians with sending (email or fax) and managing school/college forms and/or information for patients who are in treatment. 

Appropriately documents all patient related care contacts, phone calls, group notes, and other patient information in electronic medical record as necessary. 

Assists with ensuring evidenced-based screenings and other intake are completed by patient and input in electronic medical record as assigned. 

Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team and general business meetings.

Orient parent/patient to program and develops rapport with patients, family and significant others as needed.

Completes CSSRS and other safety assessments with patients as needed.

For groups:  Assists with/conducts psychoeducation and activity group therapy sessions as assigned

For groups:  Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff.

For groups:  Assists in patient management including de-escalation.

For groups:  Applies principles of infection control and safety in the work environment.

For groups:  Assists in keeping patient care and non-patient care areas clean (e.g., wipes tables, neatens storage rooms, pantries and other areas).

Obtains specimens as assigned (e.g., UDS, saliva) when applicable.

Safely and effectively utilizes the hospital computer system in accordance with hospital policy.

Participates in orientation of mental health assistants.

Ensures completion of Press Ganey Survey

Completes other responsibilities as assigned
