Senior Accountant
Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions
are properly recorded. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger
accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general
ledger. Assists in the preparation of Statements of Financial
Position, Statement of Activities, Statement of Cash Flows and
other financial reports. Performs intermediate to advanced range of
account analysis and reconciliations. Participates in the closing
processes and in the preparation and review of schedules prepared
for external audits. Coaches and mentors staff accountants. Reports
to Manager of Accounting. Work is generally independent and
collaborative in nature.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Intermediate to advanced range of account analysis and reconciliations
- Month and Year end closing process and audits, along with monitoring and review of PBC’s for audits
- Create and establish accounting systems, procedures, and accounting controls
- Apply advanced knowledge of GAAP and Financial Accounting Standards, practices and procedures; assist in implementing new standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel including advanced features along with solid experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA License
- Higher Education experience preferred
- Banner experience preferred
- Fluent in Spanish or American Sign Language
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and either Masters in a business discipline or a CPA license
- 5+ years accounting experience or 3+ years public accounting experience
- Extensive accounting, analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Team player, excellent customer service skills
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Coach and mentor those in Staff Accounting roles
- Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
- Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan
- Individual must not be convicted of, or pled nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of federal, state, or local government funds, -or- be administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or any other material violation of law involving federal, state, or local government funds (CFR 668.14(b)(18)(i))
- Masters in Accounting or a CPA license
- 5+ years accounting experience or 3+ years public accounting experience including at least 2 years in a role with advanced responsibilities
- Extensive accounting, analytical and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated experience leading components of month-end close or financial statement preparation
- Ability to support internal and external audits with minimal oversight
- Previous experience in higher education or nonprofit fund accounting
