BC Hydro is looking for an experienced Mechanical Site Engineer to make sure that construction and commissioning are done right. The Site Engineering team helps develop and oversee all technical aspects of field engineering including development of plans, construction/commissioning schedules, procedures, and construction and testing methods on high complexity construction projects. This means you take a project from construction through to commissioning, which includes doing the integration testing of new mechanical equipment to prove out functionality. The Mechanical Site Engineer is also responsible for working with our subcontractors to assure contract compliance, the application of accepted construction and commissioning technology and standards and to sort out non-compliance issues in the field by bringing design and construction people together.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>What you’ll do - </strong></p><p>* You’re at the heart of the construction and commissioning of new mechanical equipment and you use your technical expertise to get answers to complex technical queries.</p><p><br></p><p>* Take on a variety of engineering assignments of considerable complexity including construction inspection engineering, testing and commissioning, and outage staging and planning for new mechanical equipment installations.</p><p><br></p><p>* Construction oversight on major projects, working with our contractors to ensure proper coordination and staging of construction activities.</p><p><br></p><p>* Assure that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures and contract requirements, specifications, drawings, and industry standards. You do the field review, or you coordinate witness and hold points inspections for critical components and document these activities in field review records.</p><p><br></p><p>* You’re familiar with data acquisition techniques and tools and know how to use instrumentation to gather and analyse field data measurements. You will do the integration testing of new mechanical equipment by verifying functionality and performance of equipment through testing and analysis.</p><p><br></p><p>* Develop innovative engineering techniques, devising new approaches and applying existing criteria in novel ways to investigate and resolve problems of a more challenging and unusual nature with considerable independence. You go above and beyond by doing research and collecting data to formulate strategies and recommend solutions to resolve engineering problems in the field.</p><p><br></p><p>* Maintain strong relationships and liaise with different discipline design engineering staff, both to conduct field review and to organize timely resolution of technical issues. You are the eyes and ears of the POR in the field, as their delegate, to check the build quality and to carry out the functional integration testing of new equipment.</p><p><br></p><p>* Manages multiple project work package task assignments for equipment specialist services; proactively assesses priorities and risks; approve and accepts equipment; manage the work package budget and progress the schedule; and issue Construction and Commissioning Reports.</p><p><br></p><p>* Use your commissioning experience to coordinate equipment testing and commissioning using outage and staging plans and coordinate contractors, testers, and Stations Field Operations folks to get testing done and progress the testing schedule.</p><p><br></p><p>* You share what you know and encourage the professional development of engineers and technical staff. You coach/mentor and provide instruction, advice, and technical guidance to others.</p><p><br></p><p>* Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal colleagues to determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others and facilitate the resolution of issues, and manages stakeholder and Station Field Operations relationships to do your work and solve problems.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>What you bring –</strong></p><p>* A Mechanical Engineering degree recognized by Canadian Universities, alternatively a directly applicable mechanical technologist diploma. As well as continuous development through ongoing studies and participation in technical and professional societies.</p><p><br></p><p>* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC).
